Yeah, I was caught by surprise too, by this little movie starring my boy Jakey G. It came out in 1999 and it's called October Sky. I had never seen it, and I was pretty impressed. What a cool little film man! So moving and inspirational, very Americana, back when the Soviet Union was our sole competition and menace in the world. Can ya freakin' believe it? Back then, the Soviets were our main threat and technological rivals. Americans really felt down when the Russians were able to launch the Sputnik satellite into space before us back in 1957. There was this real competitive urge between the two superpowers that now seems but a distant memory. Good little movie! Kudos to Jakey who was very good in the movie and looking quite hot although a bit goofy and still growing out of his adolescence. The film felt very much like Stand By Me at times, in capturing the innocent magic that was the 1950s in the U.S.A.

Well, good luck !
I'm cringing everytime time I hear the word Karaoke. Reminds me of Chinese bands who play the same song from Bob Marley (with Chinese accent) all night long. Yes, living in China was sometimes tough. :D
I recall speaking to one of the mothers of an actor in this film. She told me the working title of the film was ROCKET BOYS. That title didn't fair well when presented to a test market. They rearranged the letters in the title to create OCTOBER SKY and that title tested much better.
Just in case you didn't know...you made it to next week. ;-) BRING IT!!!
Hmmm...that bar isn't too far from the LBC....I would love to see you in action...bet you look good crooning (among other things)!
I saw October Sky many years ago and loved it. I even told my parents they needed to see it. I had not idea Jake was in that, I didn't know who he was back then.
Good luck with the singing.
I remember this one. I didn't know Jakey baby was in it. Ahhh....I'm off to rip off Vongo. (did I say rip? I meant download into an erasable temp file.)

I've seen that movie a billio times at school because its one of those "If you follow your dreams and just believvvvve, you can do anything! Including beat the Soviets!". Its filed next to Mr. Holland's Opus and Stand and Deliever. I do heart Jake, though. Congrats on karoking!
I remember October Sky. It was cute, i think. Maybe I'll rent it again.
And good luck with Karaoke!! I love that Simple Minds song. What are you going to do next week?
You left a bar full of men to go to bed? You have such restraint.
that is when jakey was an innocent straight lad. Now his fame is tainted for being a homo. bring back the bubble boy
i loved october sky!
