NETFLIX HATH FORSAKEN ME, BUT THE CITY OF L.A. HASN'T YET.

I have to admit, I'm perhaps way too sensitive; my feelings get hurt easily over stupid shit. I became a member of the fantastic DVD-by-mail service Netflix some two and half years ago, and four actual personal friends of mine added me to their lists so that we could all share and compare our movie choices and ratings. Sadly, I now only have one friend left though! One of my buds got rid of me a while back because his movie choices always conflicted with mine and I guess he got tired of me trashing lots of his films; I do still keep in touch with him however. The other two have personal issues with me and just dropped me all together, which really makes me feel inferior and unwanted; one of them hates me now, the other I see at work and he acts aloof around me period, yet they still talk to each other regularly. I have but only one Netflix bud left. I hope she doesn't drop me anytime soon. Amazing how one moment you can be friends, and the next, people just move on!

I must be gett
ing old. I'm turning into an old gay man and I'm only in my early thirties here. I'm slowly but surely discovering the fantastic culturally vibrant and highly artistic city that I live in, Los Angeles. We've got such great venues, museums, theaters, and happenings all over the place and only now am I starting to realize and hopefully soon enjoy what this amazing city has to offer. As it is, I'm already pissed off that I missed Plácido Domingo last week at a special concert event, which must have been incredible. I really admire him tremendously, and hope to at least catch a glimpse of him conducting this upcoming opera show. There's also this great Bette Davis tribute going on next month which sounds really fun; I'd love to see some of her films in a real movie theater to get the full impact. For years, I've held out on watching Lawrence of Arabia in favor of catching it on the big screen, where it was meant to be seen. There's two wonderful screenings of it in my area coming soon, so I can't wait! Add several concerts/events at the Hollywood Bowl I'd like to attend, and you've got me broke by the end of the year! AHAHAHAHA! Oh there's just so much good stuff going on, I can hardly contain myself. L.A. is truly a culturally rich artistic world class city!

It all takes money of course, but I'm trying to spoil/educate/entertain myself before the world all ends in 2012.

Mr. W,
I'm sorry I haven't been visiting lately. I'm dealing with some crazy stuff at home coupled with some of the worst lower back pain I have ever experienced. So bad that my legs give out and I can't walk. I'd like to say that I got this pain from ultimate cage fighting but sadly it happened while gardening.

As for your netfix dilemma. I have put my account on hold simply because I have run out of things to watch. I'd be happy to restart the account and add you as a friend so you can spy on my viewing habits.

Only one Netflix bud? Cough...Cough... hack your forgetting your unofficial acomplice as well. At least I've been open to your suggestions and we discuss the films. You have given me the opportunity to experience some flicks I would never personally have chosen, and likewise my choices have shown you another side as well.

As far as being an old gay man... please. Look sometimes you have to forget the crowds and find the one person you can live with and be happy. The point is enjoy life with them.

Los Angeles does have wonderful museums, shows, and all sorts of venues. There fun and intersting. Yuo still have to do the Observatory, plus visit all the various places. You'd be amazed at the deals and places someone knows. Cough... Cough... you know Luke the Lanador can find anything since he is a world class explorer!

Old gay man? I'm a lot older than you. You're in your prime to go out and explore so I'm glad you're doing it!

I love going to LA any chance I get. Consider yourself lucky in that regard. Enjoy all it has to offer!

I'll be sitting up here in Canada sulking if you need me...

I've never been to L.A., actually. My stepdad has family out there but we usually only vacation on the east coast. Sad, I know.

And I've never tried netflix, which is ridiculous since I love movies. But I'm one that loves going to Hollywood Video and sitting there and picking out a movie. It's weird, I know, but still.

Are there a lot of theatres in Los Angeles?

I particularly like Bette Davis. I would love to see The Nanny again...

I specially admire her for being so spirited... e.g. putting a full-page ad in Variety "unemployed actress seeks work"... that was cool

Awe, that makes me sad that you have been dropped by your netflix friends. If I had a Netflix account I would put you on my list, for what that is worth. 8-)

You are so correct, LA is a culturally live urban land. So much to see and do and so much be inexpensive. I actually love the cheap seats at the bowl. How can you beat 11 bucks? lol

Yeah, I think about the world ending in 2012 and it makes me sad. All this beauty and art and so much more potentially gone. Life is a party and that party goes on, even if we do not RSVP. I say, lets RSVP!

Oh, I have never seen Lawrence of Arabia. Not on a big or small screen.

I should consider finally getting a Netflix account instead of my obsession with owning so many discs and supporting the integrity of local video stores. Actually Netflix is local since my neighbors is a marketing VP for them. She loves to flash her Porsche, BMW and stock options around.

I agree that LA is a city with many cultural riches, which is a surprise for someone from San Francisco to say. I think there is actually far more talent and options down there. San Francisco is not the complete cultural backwater that I lament about it being, but I always try to take advantage of the many treasures available when in LA
