I REMEMBER...

A long time ago, in this galaxy not so far away...

-I remember the kids at school collecting those funny-as-hell twisted sick Garbage Pail Kids cards in elementary school.

-I remember watching and singing along to this show's theme song. I also remember singing along to this dumbass show's theme song too.

-I remember my first major big news story: President Reagan getting shot. Man, I couldn't watch my cartoons thanks to John Hinckley Jr.

-I remember learning about the birds and the bees when I was 10 years old. Yeah, can you believe it? How freakin' naive is that? Now I think I know too damn much.

-I remember my teacher crying hysterically when our elementary school principal announced over the PA system that the Space Shuttle Challenger had exploded.

-I remember watching Moonlighting, The Wonder Years, and Doogie Howser M.D., not only because they were pretty good shows, but because I had secret crushes on Bruce Willis, Fred Savage, and Neil Patrick Harris. Damn, how embarrassing to admit that.

-I remember drinking lots of Strawberry Quik in milk. Fuck, that stuff was nothing but sugar and the thought of drinking that now would make me gag.

-I remember Latin freestyle music being big in junior high. Yes! Artists like: The Cover Girls, Stevie B., and Exposé.

-I remember the birth of cable television when my Dad installed ON-TV in our home. There was also that SelecTV. YIKES!

-I remember begging my mom to get me the latest hit single on 45 record every weekend when I was but a pipsqueak.

-I remember using the Dudley and PAAS brand Easter Egg coloring kits.

Yeah, there's lots I remember, but that's enough remembering for now.

I feel old.

Hmmm.... from your remembrances of childhood, I'd say you are pretty old...
But I'm even older because I was in college when the space shuttle blew up.

oh... my... god...
ON TV! I think I still have the membership CARD for that service somewhere. I remember ON TV that hidious walnut box. Black face with that horrible ON TV logo that looked like they ripped off the logo from the old kids show "ZOOM."
ONE knob. And the same four movies all month long.
Why was there a box? If its just a damn on-off switch why did we need that giant ugly box?

I remember the parade of Bi-centenial bicycles at Welby Way Elementary. Thats the memory that makes me feel old.

Oh, great memories. Whoah, Land of the Lost, no clue what that is but the production in that intro is surrealy bad... How fun.

1) Strawberry quick is still good. I have the liquid form in my fridge now.
2) you may actually have a change with Neil Patrick Harris. He lives in LA (In fact I saw him in a Japanesse restaurant in West LA a couple weeks ago) and as you know, he recently "came out." I have to say though, the guy he was with was cuter. I'd go for him.

I remember the A-Team well, used to wach it all the time. I remember how they always had to drug BA if they had to fly. I think I know someone like that...

I read your entry and think of globalization. If I remember well, we are the same age, and most of these things you mention marked my teen years and childhood in Brazil and Paraguay. I loved wonder years... (in part for the same reason you mentioned, and I watched the mediocre "crumbs" just because of that too).
